Naval Research Enterprise Internship Program (NREIP): A 10-week summer research internship for college students at a naval laboratory. See more.

Science and Engineering Apprenticeship Program (SEAP): An 8-week summer internship for high school students at a naval laboratory. See more.

Naval Horizons: This video series is designed to introduce college students to cutting-edge science and technology topics that impact the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps. Students watch a short video, learn about a particular field such as additive manufacturing, autonomy, naval engineering, etc. and write a short essay about their vision for that field in the future. The first 3,000 submissions to meet the evaluation criteria will be awarded a stipend. See more.

Science, Mathematics and Research for Transformation (SMART): This scholarship for service program gives undergraduate and graduate students a full scholarship and guarantee of employment upon degree completion. See more.

National Defense Science and Engineering Graduate (NDSEG): This fellowship for graduate students is designed to increase the number of United States citizens trained in science and engineering disciplines of military importance leading to doctoral degrees. See more.

Telecommunications Engineering Internship

Desired Expertise and Skills:

While no experience is necessary, candidates should have an interest or familiarity with the following:

  • Telecommunications engineering and design;
  • Fiber optics, copper or wireless communications systems;
  • Engineering and/or GIS concepts and design methods;
  • Current procedures, methods and technologies in engineering-related fields;
  • Operating and properly utilizing a variety of office equipment including plotter and copier, computers and peripheral equipment, printers, and microfilm reader printers;
  • Current versions of Windows, MS Access, MS Office, Google Earth;
  • Excellent written, oral and visual communications skills.

Student Intern Program 2020 - 2021

EPA’s National Enforcement Training Institute (NETI) is accepting applications for unpaid positions in its Student Intern Program. We also share resumes with other offices. Participants in NETI’s program will work in EPA’s Office of Enforcement and Compliance Assurance (OECA) and other enforcement-related offices in Washington, DC. We are seeking applications from undergraduates and graduate students in a variety of fields, including computer science, computer programming, data analysis, environmental engineering, chemical engineering, chemistry, biology, GIS, economics, health sciences, public policy, and government.

NETI’s Student Intern Program includes a series of unique, specialized training sessions on environmental laws and how they are enforced. These weekly seminars provide first-hand knowledge from EPA’s leading enforcement experts.

HOW TO APPLY: Semester requirement: a minimum of 15 hours per week for 10 weeks. Summer requirement: a minimum of 40 hours per week for 11 weeks (graduates) or 10 weeks (undergraduates). Positions are competitive. We look for qualified and highly motivated candidates with superior records of achievement, a commitment to environmental and/or law enforcement work, and who also work well in teams. Civil and Environmental Engineering Sophomores Jade Rutledge and Brandon Abraham recently published a paper titled “Mechanical Properties of C3N Nanotubes” in the peer-reviewed scientific journal in materials science Diamond and Related Materials. Rutledge and Abraham worked in collaboration with Civil and Environmental Engineering Ph.D. student Hamid Ghasemi under the mentorship of Civil and Environmental Engineering Assistant Professor Hessam Yazdani.
